The Mitchell County Board of Supervisors have voted to forward $20,000 to buy a van for the St. Ansgar Rescue Squad. The rescue squad is a first-on-the-scene-response group trained to give aid in advance of ambulance arrival. Officials say that the county usually participates in donating to causes that protect the public. The squad is purchasing a $140,000 van that will carry the required equipment used in their rescue calls.
So far fundraising has raised $107,000. When this van is purchased, the old van will be used in Stacyville.
County officials will take $10,000 out of this years budget despite objections that the cost was not in this years budget. Then they will take the remaining $10,000 pledged out of next years budget.
