The Heartland Power Cooperative will build its solar power project near St. Ansgar shortly according to company officials. The 705 kilowatt project is part of a partnership with the National Renewable Cooperative Organization and the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Cooperation.
According to officials with Heartland Power Cooperative, their customers can purchase solar panel subscriptions that will be optimally sited and fully maintained. The subscription means that the customer will not have to maintain the panels or the system, the cooperative will.
Officials say that this will be one of the largest solar projects in Iowa and they are hoping that it will grow even larger creating more renewable energy for their customers now and into the future.
