The Lake Mills area will once again participate in a community blood drive on Tuesday, May 13th from 1pm to 6pm. The event will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills and is put on by the LifeServe Blood Center. Organizers urge those who can, to give blood as now, with stormy weather conditions and traffic accidents traditionally on the rise, blood donations almost always decrease, especially during summer months. Organizers say that they need the blood for those who are put in hospitals for natural disasters and traffic accidents.
LifeServe Blood Center is the 15th largest provider of blood in the country, to over 100 hospitals throughout Iowa. When called upon, they also provide blood to locations in Nebraska and South Dakota. Their principle focus is in the state of Iowa.
Those who are eligible, should be at least 16 years old, weigh 120 pounds or more and be in general good health. Organizers urge donors to call ahead and set up an appointment at 800-287-4903 so that the screening can be done ahead of time and the donor can walk in, give blood, enjoy some snacks and juice, and be on their way. Donors can also go to www.lifeservebloodcenter.org.
