The road construction continues in Belmond as the bridge work slows traffic in some areas. Now this week, the city will close portions of third street in order to repave the road. City Administrator Lee Ann Waltzing explains:
The city has identified locations where repaving is a necessity along third street and it is those areas that will be resurfaced.
Meanwhile the city is awaiting bids to repair the water mains which randomly cracked and faltered over the winter. The city is looking to get the mains replaced as some of them, according to officials, are nearly 100 years old.
Frozen temperatures and an unusually low frost line this past winter led to the breaks in the mains.
