Teenage Drinking Discussed at Town Hall Meeting

Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP), a sub-committee of the Hancock County Wellness Coalition, held a town hall meeting on Thursday April 10, 2014 at Duncan Hall. Jay Pedelty from Prairie Ridge gave a presentation on underage drinking then opened it up for questions from the group. The group broke into smaller groups for discussion on underage drinking and how Hancock County can help reduce substance abuse. The general concern was what and how can the ASAP committee get the county and parents of our youth involved to make our county a healthier and safer place for our youth. Substance abuse is a growing problem and will take everyone working together to find strategies to teach our youth about this problem.
Residents are invited to the next ASAP meeting at 12:00 noon on May 13 in the Hancock County Memorial Hospital Board Room. For more information, contact Hancock County Wellness Coalition at 641-923-3676 or “like” their Facebook page.
