SPORTS NEWS APRIL 22 2014

The Forest City boys track team finished 3rd at the Clear Lake Relays Monday night, scoring 60 points.  Grant Lehmann led the Indians, winning the high jump.  The 4×800 meter relay won, while the 4×400 relay and Chad Ullmann in the 1600 finished 2nd.  Algona won with 135 points, Clear Lake was 2nd with 93, while Lake Mills was 5th with 38. Forest City runs at the Comet Relays in Charles City tonight at 5 pm.

The Forest City girls track team competed at the Gilbert Relays Monday night. The Indians were led by the 4×800 meter relay team of Maggie Mathiasen, Rachel Koch, Sarri Happel, and Emily Koch who finished 2nd in 10:50.80.  The 4×400 meter relay team of Happel, Mathiasen, Koch, and Lydia Schwartz was also 2nd in 4:38.97.  The girls run at Garner tonight at 5 pm.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys golf team won a quadrangular Monday night in Mason City.  The Cardinals won in a tiebreaker over Newman Catholic after both teams shot 176.  Belmond-Klemme had 191, and North Iowa 196. Carter Niedermeyer of Newman Catholic was medalist with a 40.

The Waldorf softball team defeated Clarke University in a non-conference doubleheader Monday afternoon at Al Buckley field in Forest City.  The Warriors won the opener 3-0 behind home runs from Kalie DePold and Danyielle Barger. Marisa Donnelly picked up the win in the circle, scattering 5 hits and striking out 3.  In the nightcap, the Warriors got 3 run home runs from Michelle Eden and Kendra Wedl, while Kathryn Nieman and Kalie DePold hit solo home runs. The Warriors scored the winning run on a double in the bottom of the 7th by DePold.  Waldorf is now 33-7 overall, and hosts Bellevue University in an MCAC doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm.
