SPORTS NEWS APRIL 21 2014

The Waldorf softball team split a pair of non-conference games Friday afternoon in the Warrior’s home opener against AIB.  Waldorf picked up the win in game 1 as Clear Lake native Kathryn Nieman hit a 3 run home run to right field. Waldorf won 5-0 behind a 6 hit shutout by Marisa Donnelly.  In the nightcap, AIB jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st, before the Warriors scored their only 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, with Michelle Eden hitting a 2 run double.  AIB scored 7 runs after 2 were out to pick up the win 8-3.  Waldorf is 31-7, and hosts Clarke University in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at Al Buckley field, starting at 3 pm.

The Waldorf baseball team dropped 3 of 4 games in their final MCAC action of the season, falling to York College Friday and Saturday. Friday, the Warriors split games, dropping the opener 3-2, before scoring 4 times in the bottom of the 7th to win 5-4.  In the win, Chad Czaplewski hit a 2 run double to bring the Warriors within 1, before an error and a bases loaded walk by Ben Alexander plated the winning run.  Trevor Bauer got the win in relief, striking out 1 in 2/3 of an inning. Saturday, the Warriors fell 2-1 and 14-6 to end their conference season at 4-20.  Waldorf will end their season with a Tuesday non-conference doubleheader at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
