One can tell when spring is around the corner when the Winnebago County Conservation Board decides to give away trees. The WCCB holds the event annually and this year they are moving it to May 1st. The trees will be seedlings and are available from 8am to 4pm at the Thorpe Park Office. The office is located about five miles west of Forest City on Highway 9. Organizers remind everyone interested in getting a tree for free, that it will be on a first come, first serve basis.
Organizers encourage parents to get their children involved to realize the significance of tree planting and the benefits it gives to nature and to people.
