The Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa has a new slogan or theme for the 2014 edition when it comes to Forest City. “RV There Yet?” is the official theme for the event which will stop in Forest City on July 22nd. The theme is a wink at Forest City’s overwhelming Norwegian heritage while still giving Winnebago Industries a plug.
The logo is a cogwheel with an RV at the top and a cyclist at the bottom and in between the two are the words “RV There Yet?” The colors are red and blue and have in the background trees, a wind turbine, and a Viking. The slogan idea was that of Forest City Mayor Rick Skjeie who gave the concept to the publicity committee that ran with it by hiring a graphic designer from Winnebago Industries to come up with the logo.
The logo will be officially put on t-shirts and other merchandise, then sold on the Forest City RAGBRAI website at http://forestcityRAGBRAI.com.
As side note, it may appear as if Vikings on bicycles have raided Forest City when all is said and done. The organizers will be giving the riders paper horns to attach to their helmets to make them appear like Viking helmets. The hope is to set the world record for the most cyclists wearing Viking horns on their helmets according to officials.
