Scott Meinders, the Winnebago County Engineer told the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday that the secondary roads are getting gravel placed on them due to road conditions that are deteriorating. Some roads are in need of simple overlays while others require some patch work with small piles.
At issue is the weather. With the recent spring thaw and rainy conditions prevailing for the better part of the week and weekend, the roads get soft, specifically the gravel. Many of the roads have been graded and during the Supervisors meeting, Meinders learned of more roads that need work. His crews have been busy throughout the winter, moving rock to locations that needed it, but because of snow plowing and salt spreading, not all areas were attended to. Meinders told the board that his crew is now putting all of their focus on catching up.
With rain in the forecast for today and into tonight, there may be another minor delay.
