Garner City Council To Meet Tonight

The Garner City Council will convene today at the Garner City Hall to hear the Alliant Energy report which will be given by Jim Collins. They will also discuss a request by the Duesey Days Committee for street closures for vendors and events on July 11th and 12th. On one of those same days, the 12th, the North Iowa Touring Club has requested a series of street closures for the family bicycle ride. The council will look into a resolution authorizing the bicycle ride street closures.


The council will also discuss the North Iowa Area Community Colleges Education Center lease which has been amended for to include office space at the Garner Education Center.  The college is looking to add more office space at the center to meet the need there.

Generator bids will revealed and reviewed afterwards. The city is looking for bids on the standby generator for Well #3 and the Water Treatment Plant. The council will look to award the winning bid through Resolution 2014-20.


Finally the council will address the 2014 Sidewalk Improvement Program. The council will review proposals to improve sidewalks on State Street, East 8th Street, Seymour Avenue, and East 10th Street. They will also review work needed to be done on the sidewalks along West 8th Street from Division Street down to 69 Highway.

The meeting is slated to begin at 7pm with a public input session where residents of Garner may address the council for 2 minutes on items not on the meeting agenda. The council will not take action on the subjects brought up by residents, but may table them for future consideration
