Over the next six months, approximately 350,000 rainbow and brook trout will be stocked into streams in a dozen north and northeast Iowa counties. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced the beginning of their stocking run.
Iowa DNR Supervisor of Fisheries Mike Steuck explains why stocking is important for anglers:
While stocking runs will be carried out until October when and where the stocking will occur has not been announced. Many anglers have already been out spending their winter fishing for trout. Not having a shortage of trout was one of Steuck’s top priorities:
Anglers age 16 and over will need to have a valid fishing license and pay the trout fee to fish for, or to possess trout.
Children under the age of 16 may fish for, or possess trout if they fish with an adult who has a valid fishing license and has paid for the trout fee.
