Cedar Rapids Road Reopens Following Flooding

A western Cedar Rapids road has been reopened as the city monitors flooding from the Cedar River.

Public Works Maintenance Manager Craig Hanson says Ellis Road NW is open west of Edgewood road. No ice was on the road and there are no reports of initial damage.

Otis Road SE, which has a foot of water on it, remains closed.

Hanson said in an earlier release that ice on the Cedar River was to blame. He said the river level had risen several feet because of water from upstream ice jams. There is still “significant” ice in the river near the Edgewood bridge.

Hanson said officials are optimistic that a mass of ice chunks currently passing through the area will be resolved in the next few hours.
