The Belmond-Klemme Broncos will face a strong side in the Dunkerton Raiders at the Wells Fargo Arena at noon today on KIOW. Orin Harris has the call as the Raiders are 24-2 on the season and have a strong scorer in Kory Kuenstling who has 558 points on the season, averaging 20.7 points per game. Behind him are Trevor Jacobsen with 341 points and Jordan Kubitz with 261.
Kuestling is shooting 68.6% from the field and 66.4% from the charity stripe. While he is not the leader at the line, he is effective from inside and underneath. He has only one shot from the arc which he made. The real threats from the arc are Jacobsen and Kubitz. Jacobsen is shooting 38.5% from the arc while Kubitz is hitting 36.9% of his attempts.
Kuenstling is not only effective underneath, but he rebounds well on both sides of the court. He has 102 offensive rebounds and has grabbed 187 on the defensive end for a total of 289. That is twice more than the next guy on the chart, Zach Fischer with 127.
Jordan Kubitz and Nick Anderson have the most steals on the team. Kubitz has 53 while Anderson has 48.
On the offensive side, Nick Anderson is the captain as he has 105 assists, followed by Kubitz with 82 and Bryce Rigdon with 76. Anderson will set the offense at the top of the arc and try to find the open player. Generally that is Kuestling who works inside the paint and down the baseline.
The last loss for the Raiders came on Jan. 13 against Meskwaki Settlement School. Since then, they have been strong in conference, but untested against more distant and potentially stronger schools.
For the Broncos, it’s another giant to slay. After taking out the Lamoni Demons who were the number one team in the state, the Broncos go back to work against the Raiders with the likes of Court Christianson who has 411 points on the season and is shooting 44.7% from the field. If fact, the top five scorers on the team all have 300 or more points. Colin Lane has 358 points, Elijah Kinseth has 312, and Caleb Torkelson has 303. Rounding out the high scorers on the team, Korby Sander has 152 and Logan Erickson has 134.
Directing the offense up top is Colin Lane who has 146 assists. Torkelson and Christianson both have 63. Lane has a tremendous luxury of even distribution of the ball with a number of strong scorers to work with as opposed the the Raiders who look mostly for Kuenstling.
Like the offensive end, the defensive side has power too. Colin Lane leads the team in rebounds with 176, and 136 of those are defensive. Kinseth will muscle in underneath and has nabbed 141 rebounds with 81 being defensive. Torkelson has 130 rebounds and Korby Sander has grabbed 123.
In the steal category, six players are in double figures with Colin Lane having 44, Torkelson with 42, Christianson has 38, Kinseth 19, and Erickson 18.
The Broncos will also be scouting one of their next opponents tomorrow, as the Keota Eagles who are 24-1 take on the 21-5 West Lyon Wildcats at 10:30am.
