Braves shut down Warriors

The Waldorf College baseball team wrapped up a four-game series against Ottawa University, dropping two games in Monday’s doubleheader.

The Braves (6-6) topped the Warriors (1-8) by scores of 8-1 and 7-1.

Kevin Warnes led Waldorf in the opener, going 3-for-3 with a double. A third-inning single from Dylan Bezayiff scored Ben Alexander for the Warriors’ only run of the game.

Ariel Gomerez took the loss on the mound. Gomerez (0-2) struck out three batters, issued six walks and allowed six runs on two hits in four and two-third innings.

Waldorf’s Chad Czaplewski finished with two hits in Game 2. Dean Mick scored on an error for the Warriors in the bottom of the sixth.

Casey Schuermann worked four innings in the loss. Schuermann (0-2) fanned four, walked three and yielded five runs on six hits.

Waldorf opens Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) play this weekend, going on the road against Oklahoma Wesleyan University (18-3) for a pair of 12 p.m. doubleheaders.
