The City of Forest City has formally approved the hiring of DGR Engineering to look at the costs involved in taking overhead lines and placing them underground. City Attorney Steve Bakke and Line Superintendent Kevin Swanson asked the council to pass a resolution to the effect in a recent council meeting.
The council is seeking to find out the long term costs associated with the conversion. Due to this being one of the coldest winters on record in Iowa according to the National Weather Service, power lines can suffer from extremes such as extreme heat or sleet and freezing rain which causes the swag in the lines to expand and break.
The council was in full agreement to hire the engineering firm. It is not known when the company will actually begin work on the costs involved.
