The Fourth Annual Burt Chili and Soup Cook-off will be held on Saturday, March 15 at the Burt Activity Complex from 11 to 1 PM. Sponsored by the Burt Presbyterian Church, all funds raised at the event go to benefit the Kossuth Food Pantry. All area residents are urged to come and taste the entries and/or eat the Iowa Supreme mild chili or Dawn Chipman’s Championship Chicken and Noodle Soup that will be also be reserved for all attendees to enjoy. Admission is free, but donations for the food pantry are welcome.
For three years in a row the event has raised over a thousand dollars each year in donations for the food pantry. The event is a great time to get together with friends and family in a fun family setting.
The event is seeking entries from all over the county in both chili and soup categories. There will be trophies for the winners in three areas for each category – judge’s choice, people’s choice (everyone who comes gets to vote) and donor’s choice (each penny donated at the competitor’s site counts). A $100 prize will be given for best in show (from all categories).
Anyone in Kossuth County or the surrounding counties is welcome to enter. Contact Pastor Glenn Wilson at 515-341-5467 to enter the event. Officials ask that you bring a crock pot or roaster of chili or soup for judging and tasting.
