The 2014 State Wrestling Tournament wrapped up Saturday night, and Forest City High School crowned another state champion.  Tyler Putney defeated Mario Pena of Hampton-Dumont for the 3rd time this season 3-2 in the ultimate tiebreaker. Putney finished the season at 46-4.  Noah Irons of Lake Mills settled for 2nd at 152 in Class 1A, dropping a 4-2 decision to Tucker Black of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.  Clear Lake freshman Ryan Leisure finished 2nd at 113 in 2A as he was pinned by Brock Rathbun of Center Point-Urbana in 4:48, while teammate Andres Gonzalez fell to top ranked Max Thomson of Union 5-4.  Osage’s Brady Jennings was 2nd at 126, falling 5-3 to Darrian Schwenke of Atlantic.  Clarion-Goldfield finished 3rd in Class 1A as a team, crowning one state champion in 113 pounder Josh Portillo.  Brother Justin Portillo was 2nd at 106, while Joel Haberman was 2nd at 126 for the Cowboys.  Other area placewinners include:

The Forest City boys basketball team’s season came to a close at the hands of the Osage Green Devils in a 76-71 loss at New Hampton Saturday night. In a game heard here on KIOW, the Indians got 31 points from Erich Erdman, with Isaiah Loeschen adding 17 and Jordan True 11.  Forest City ends their season at 16-5, while Osage moves on to play 2nd ranked New Hampton in the district final in Clear Lake tomorrow night.
