The Garner City Council will meet tonight beginning at 6pm to go into a work session on the 2015 Fiscal Year Budget. The budget year begins July 1st of this year and runs through June 30, 2015.
After the work session, the council and mayor will go into a general session at 7pm where they will handle personnel matters and hear reports from the police, treasurer, Public Works, Water and Sewer, and Parks and Recreation Departments. They will also discuss the proposed fees and rates for the 2014 golf season at the Garner Golf Course. The fees and rates are being proposed by the Garner Golf Course Foundation. The foundation is also asking for a new rough mower for the course.
During the reports, the Water and Sewer Department will likely discuss the city engineer’s cost estimate for generators at the plant. Currently before the council are two proposals. The first deals with having one large generator while the second proposes two smaller generators. The generators would be installed by V & K Enterprises. The generators would be located at the Water Treatment Plant Well #3. The council may take action on these proposals.
Another problem, possibly dealing with the golf course has to do with the latest infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer. The council will address the Iowa Department of Natural Resources bulletin regarding quarantines and how the city will be prepared in case confirmed cases are made in the city limits.
The council meeting will also hold a public forum for residents of Garner to respond or comment to issues facing the city.
