Two Teens Die in Icy Car Crash

The winter weather has caused at least two fatalities in the area over the weekend. Two Forest City teens died as a result of a two-car accident Saturday southwest of Forest City.

About 11:06 AM Saturday, a 19-year-old Tiffany Banta and a 15-year-old Chyann Banta were traveling east  on county road B14 near Maple Avenue when Tiffany Banta lost control and crossed the center line of the road, striking a west bound 1998 Ford Explorer driven by a 68-year-old Steven Hanna of Crystal Lake.  The collision sent both vehicles into the north ditch.  The two teens were taken to Mason City’s Mercy Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.  Hanna was not injured in the crash.

Officials say icy county roads are to blame and at the time, according to officials on the scene, the road was 100% ice covered.
