The Forest City Council and Mayor Rick Skjeie concluded budget meetings last night with discussion and presentation from several departments. The meetings began on Monday with a look at over ten different departments. They were the City Hall, the Fire Department, Paramedics, Street and Sanitation Department, the Airport, the Library, the Parks and Recreation Department, the Cemetery Committee, the Forest City Economic Development, Grow Forest City, and the Winnebago Historical Society.
On Tuesday evening, the city council met with the Water and Waste Water Department, the Heritage Park Society, and two other groups. The purpose of the meetings was to design the budget for the fiscal year for the city. The council not only had to make budget allotments for its own departments, but also for the societies in the area that depend on city and county funding.
The council will now make final adjustments to the budget before meeting on the 27th to approve the fiscal outline for the year. that meeting will take place in council chambers beginning at 7pm.
After concluding the budget hearings, the city council discussed water rate increases and Jon West of the council moved that the city adopt a 5% increase in water rates. The council approved the draft version of the bill and it will then be acted on in the meeting on the 27th.
