The Winnebago and Hancock County Emergency Management are placing National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Weather Radios at a discounted rate. Usually the retail price is $40, but the Winnebago and Hancock County Emergency Management are selling them for $27. For lower income homes the price is even more reduced and can even be free to those who qualify.
The project was spurred by officials learned from several residents that they cannot hear the outdoor warning sirens in their homes. Now while the spring season storms are a few months off yet, weather can strike even during the cold winter months prompting the Emergency Management team to place the radios up for sale at discounted rates.
KIOW News will be following up with this story to get you the specifics on when and where you can purchase the radios.
