The Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry Network will receive its first shipment of food at its renovated building in downtown Des Moines.
Food Pantry Network Director Rebecca Whitlow says the shipment of $5,500 worth of cereal from Hy-Vee stores will arrive Tuesday morning. The new food distribution center is about 6,000 square feet, more than triple the space of the previous site. The new warehouse will officially start receiving donations on Jan. 20.
Whitlow says the Hy-Vee shipment was the first accepted at the new site because the charity wanted to mark the donations from the supermarket chain, especially an annual cookie sale Hy-Vee organizes the aid the pantry.
The pantry network distributes food at 13 sites and partners with other groups.
