State officials say a Cedar Rapids man shot himself in the kneecap while hunting in central Iowa. The Department of Natural Resources says 37-year-old Charles Nolte was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on Monday with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say Nolte’s shotgun discharged while he was putting on his gloves before 1 p.m. Monday. He was hunting in an area southwest of Melcher-Dallas, in Marion County, Iowa.
