Autopsy results reveal that a northern Iowa man who died while being arrested for severely beating and stabbing a woman overdosed on methamphetamine.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety says in a news release issued Saturday that 39-year-old Michael Zubrod died of heart failure in the wake of acute meth intoxication and the physical stress of attacking a woman and fighting with law enforcement. Deputies responding to a report of domestic assault on September 22nd say they found Zubrod severely beating the 48-year-old woman.
Authorities say Zubrod also attacked the three deputies it took to subdue him. Once Zubrod was handcuffed and lying on the floor, he became unresponsive, and the deputies were unable to revive him.
The deputies have been cleared of any wrongdoing in Zubrod’s death.
