In our 4 O’clock Focus:
The city of Forest City annually puts on an event called “Forest City Christmas” which is where area businesses and the Chamber of Commerce close off Main Street on a Saturday and get people to come downtown to see all the exciting businesses there are in town. We spoke with several of the businesses and to organizers about the event and what it means to the city.
The event featured turkey bowling where kids tried to knock down bowling pins using a frozen turkey. There were stands set up where roasted chestnuts were being served, popcorn stands and various other foods. Chili and hot chocolate were also part of the fare which was free. Businesses were offering various specials to help with last minute shopping. Kathy Roloffson, one of the organizers of the event spoke with KIOW News Director A. J. Taylor on the impact the festival has on the downtown area:
Area businesses were all too happy to accommodate all the people who made it to the event as Scooby Doos owner Julie Keeley said when she sat down with A. J. during the event.
Now organizers will take what they have learned from this event to plan an even more successful event next year.
