SPORTS NEWS DECEMBER 9 2013

The Forest City boys’ basketball team moved their season record to 2-1 Friday night with an 84-69 victory over Newman Catholic.  Erich Erdman had 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists to lead the Indians, while Jordan True had 14, Isaiah Loeschen 13, and Mitch Lambert 12.  The Indians are now off until Friday night, when they travel to Buffalo Center to take on North Iowa.  The West Hancock boys’ basketball team defeated Central Springs in non-conference action 61-47, as Connor Sonius led the way with 15 points, 8 assists and 4 steals, while Nate Paulus added 11, and Jacob Hejlik 10.  West Hancock is now 3-0, and takes on West Fork in Sheffield tonight.  Other Friday night basketball scores:

The Forest City girls’ basketball team defeated Newman Catholic 38-26 Friday night in the North Iowa Conference opener for both schools.  Sarri Happel had 20 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Indians.  The West Hancock girls basketball team fell to Central Springs 67-58 Friday night.  Maria Gonzalez had 28 points for the Eagles, while Lexi Korte had 17 to lead 4 Panthers in double figures.  West Hancock travels to West Fork tonight. The Forest City wrestling team defeated Weston/Ithaca 42-33 and Lancaster, Wisconsin 51-27 at the Holmen Duals Saturday afternoon, while falling to Fort Atkinson 39-32, Holmen 58-15, and West Salem 39-37.  For the Indians, Andrew Mettry at 106 and Beau Sorenson at 160 each went 5-0.  The Indians host Osage and Mason City tomorrow night. The Lake Mills wrestling team finished with 69 points at the Blue Earth Wrestling tournament Saturday.  Noah Irons was the Bulldogs’ lone champion at 152.
