SPORTS NEWS DECEMBER 4 2013

The Forest City Indian boys’ basketball team opened the 2013-14 campaign with a tough 69-67 loss to Mason City High School Tuesday night. In a game heard here on KIOW, Erich Erdman led the Indians with 21 points, while twin brother Ethan had 14, and Jordan True had 11.  Sophomore Jaresse Williams had 21 for the Mohawks.  Forest City is 0-1, and plays host to Estherville-Lincoln Central Thursday night.

The West Hancock Eagles opened the season with an 80-55 victory over Northwood-Kensett Tuesday night. In a game heard on B103.1, Nathan Paulus scored 29 points to lead the way, including 11 of 11 from the free throw line, as the Eagles outscored the Vikings 31-12 in the 4th quarter. Connor Sonius chipped in 11 points, 8 steals, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the 2-0 Eagles. West Hancock hosts Central Springs Friday night.  Other boys’ basketball scores:

The Forest City girls’ basketball team fell to Mason City High 60-30 in non-conference action Tuesday night.  Sarri Happel was the lone Indian in double figures with 12. Mackenzie Meyer led Mason City with 14.  Forest City is now 0-3.

The Northwood-Kensett Vikings defeated the West Hancock girls 62-53. Maria Gonzalez had 14 points to lead the Eagles, while Beth Davidson had 29 points and 8 rebounds for the Vikings.  West Hancock is now 1-1.  Other girls’ basketball scores:
