Children 12 years old and younger have the chance to light the Forest City Christmas Tree on Thursday. The event will take place at the Winnebago County Courthouse around 5:30pm. Children need to register at the Manufacturers Bank and Trust, the Chamber of Commerce, Titonka savings Bank, Nu2U Consignments, Karen Keller State Farm Insurance Office, or the Forest City Summit. From all of the registrations, a name will be drawn who will then flip the switch at the lighting ceremony.
Other events scheduled at the ceremony will be the Forest City United Methodist Church Choir singing several Christmas Carols and dignitaries giving brief Christmas messages. the weather forecast is calling for mostly clear skies, with temperatures near 12. Wind chill values may be as low as -10. That is because it is expected to be windy with a west northwest winds 15 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Officials are advising that attendees come prepared for the weather.
