Iowa officials say community college enrollment this fall is down for the third straight year, dropping 3.5 percent from 2012. Enrollment at Iowa’s 15 community colleges peaked in 2010 at more than 106,000 students. This fall’s enrollment estimate is around 97,000 students.
Officials at Northern Iowa Area Community College could not be reached for comment on their enrollment numbers for the fall semester 2013. However, the trend in the state is following a trend seen in other parts of the country, particularly in the Midwest and southwest where numbers have begun to decline, in some cases sharply.
